Chapter 1 – Home of my father…..

Bane sat in the darkness his thoughts racing around in his head trying to grasp the events that had transpired today. Bane and his father Darius had argued many times over the years. Sometimes about politics and other times he just couldn’t remember why they argued. But for some reason this conversation struck the wrong nerve and Bane knew his father well enough to drop the subject. “But why” was the question Bane was trying to grasp… Why can’t he even tell me about my mother? Every time Bane tried to bring the subject up his father would get this dark look in his eyes and ignore him completely.
Frustrated Bane left his chambers and stepped outside. The cool night air was beginning to calm his thoughts when he noticed a figure standing in the shadow of a tree across the field. Bane didn’t see this figure at first but he could sense its eyes fixed on him. A chill ran up Banes spine and he could feel his blood beginning to boil forcing away the cool air around him. Almost as sudden as it had began the feeling stopped and the cool air returned carrying a whisper across his ears “I know who you really are Bane son of Darius…. I know” … The shadow was gone Bane once again found himself alone with his thoughts.

Banes father was growing more and more distant every day. He didn’t know if it was because of their constant arguments or if it was just his father’s way of dealing with his brother Canes decision to leave home almost a year ago in search of glory. Bane remembered his brother’s words just before he left. “I need to find myself” .. Cane was Banes younger brother but even Bane had to admit the young man could take care of himself. He remembered his father’s protests and Canes stubborn stance against everything Darius could say. Nothing was going to change his mind. May by his father was distancing himself from Bane little by little in preparation for the day Bane would leave home… Bane smirked “I need to find myself” Canes words in his mouth. The little brat was right. Bane too needed to find himself. Bane was tired of his life in Trendor and knew he would not find the answers he was seeking unless he went out on his own. Packing up a few of his belongings bane said good bye. His father did not make any attempts to stop him or cause any arguments to persuade banes decision. Instead he wished him well. Bane turned to head out the Trendor exit.
“If you see that good for nothing brother of yours tell him to send me a letter or two.”
Bane stopped for a moment and glanced over his shoulder.
“Good bye my son and don’t forget where your home is”
Without a reply Bane continued to the exit.

Stepping out of the city Bane found a sense of freedom washing over him with every step he took along the Trendor Bridge. As he stepped off the bridge bane turned around and looked at his home. Just as he was about to turn away he felt his blood begin to boil just as it did last night, something was watching him. Bane did not want this spy to know his discomfort and played it off as he began to head down the road. The uneasy feeling began to subside as he headed towards the stone forest. A faint laugh could be heard carried along the wind.

Muhaaa haaa haa… The pawns are in motion. Soon father soon all your power will be mine. Djin smiled as she watched Bane leave.

Chapter 2 - The Amulet of Souls……….

Djin knew she had Bane wrapped around her finger. She knew she could manipulate him to do her bidding. She watched as he left Trendor. Yes my son you will serve me well. She turned her attention to her own survival. If he succeeds my father will surly know it was my betrayal and he will destroy me without a second thought. I must find a way to protect myself from his wrath.
Djin was only learning how to control her powers but her ambitions were far greater then her abilities and she knew it. She knew her father would not willingly share his knowledge with her and she knew he was hungry for power himself. Like father like daughter she thought… as she laughed.
Djin had already learned how to visit other worlds. Her father taught her about the balance in the universe and she served him for many years in his cause. She had lived life time after life time on many of these world. In each of these lifetimes she had cherished the mortal races but in time through her immortality lost all who she had loved. Each passing generation tore at her soul. Each life she held dear that flickered out in front of her eyes only served to add to the growing pain in her heart. After countless generations in the service of her father Djins own soul was lost in endless grief. Her heart hardened by the pain. She began to realize her own existence seemed a joke. A cruel trick spawned by her father as if to satisfy his own lust to create life but neglected the fact that she herself would live forever. Immortal in a universe of mortality. Djin focused her talents on a new ideal. She no longer felt the pain inside her. She no longer had compassion for life. The only thing that mattered to her now was to make her father suffer for his cruelty.
One thing she knew better then any is a mortals craving for power. She learned early on how to manipulate mortals to do her bidding and now delighted in playing with them like puppets.
Djin had learned long ago this world was different from all the rest. This world had a guiding force to draw life to it and even disperse that life to other worlds to maintain a balance in the universe. Her father saw to it that she knew this much and tasked her with the responsibility to visit these worlds and stir up chaos to create conflict among its inhabitance to insure the flow between the worlds continued. Her ability to seduce mortals could have been compared to her father’s power of destruction.

Djin grew tired of this game and wanted more……. Much more.

Djin held an amulet in front of her and examined it. “Yes this one will do nicely.” Its pure smooth surface held its own mysteries as the interior of the jewel swirled within its borders. Djin smirked as she tucked it away. “My precious ornament you will guarantee my survival.”

Djin set out to pay another visit to the various worlds to stir up a little more conflict between their inhabitance. “Once my amulet is finished not even my father will be able to reach me.”

(written by Majin Roe)
My memories of my life before Iia are few and come only in my dreams. Of those dreams that i can remember, i have gathered that i was a warrior, a Knight, in the service of a powerful lord in a land where guns did not exist. I know this because the sword came to me as a fish to swimming, but the gun was as a fish to flying. But in the world whence i came from i served as a knight fighting off invasions of demon-like creatures... I am disturbed to see that a few of the creatures in this world are those i fought in my previous life... But that not withstanding, i rember my frist death came not at the hands of my foes but that of my lord, when i refused to participate in genocide. A village on the edge of the demon lands was to be "Cleased" of the dark powers that were all around it. It others words it was to be wiped off the map, and i was sent to execute this morbid order. When i arrived, i was astonished to find the village in no way affected by the demons. Their priests had placed powerful wards that held the demons at bay. I knew at this point that this village could not be harmed. I ordered my men to return to the capital. When we arrived i presented my findings to my lord, who took my return as a act of treason.
He ordered my death with no sign of remorse. With that his most loyal retainers pounced on me, intent on my death.

After his retainers fell to my sword, the source of his might became painfully clear to me. As i strode to lay an attack on my former lord, i froze. I had no control of my body, only my eyes and mouth could i move. A spell of holding. He laughed in a tone that i did not know that a human could utter. He began to explain that the only reason that the kingdom was still standing was that he sturck a deal with the leader of the demons, a foul beast named Datrous. As the horror of what he was saying came to me, he concluded that to save the kingdom all humans outside of it must die. With that said he drew a knife or the darkest steel and thurst it into my heart. He told me that my death would be a sacrafice to the foul beast. and i would be reborn as a demon in his service. His foul laugh faded as the darkness of death took me.

After the darkness took me i felt pain beyond all that i had ever knew. I heard a voice in a tone that could only have been the divine:

"You are not to be Datrous' warrior this day..... Live and continue your battle..."

Through the wars created by Djin the souls of the innocent began to flow but not all found their way to a new destination. With her amulet Djin began to collect some of these souls denying them the chance to live again. This Amulet of souls now rests around her neck. Her insurance that would guarantee her survival if her plans failed.

Chapter 3 – The Cross of Bane

Strife grief stricken sat in silence as he held his brothers hand.
“Why must the good suffer” Strife said as he choked on his own words.
The chaos of fighting raged around their small island as the Armies of Datro lay siege to their peaceful home. Strife lost in sadness could barley hear his own people calling out in pain. What little resistance they had left would continue to fight on out of desperation even until their own deaths. “This war ….this righteous cause …. This ideal of force to maintain the natural balance was just that.. a cause to create chaos. A reason to enforce ones own control over existence itself.” Strife disgusted at the very idea of forcing the balance. Shook his head in disbelief.
Placing Saloran’s hand on his own chest Strife let go of his brother for the last time “I can’t let this needless destruction claim any more lives.”

“Commander Bane its time”
The soldier drew back the tent flaps to allow the sun light in, bane shielded his eyes to try and focus on the man who had awoken him. His aid was standing ready with his suit of armor.
“Thank you Sam” Bane stood up and grabbed a necklace from the stand next to his bed. The chain had an ornate cross hanging from it as Bane placed the chain around his neck the cross rested against his chest. The artifact began to give off a faint glow that pulsed in rhythm with the commanders own heart. Samual had seen this many times but yet the inhuman pulse of the artifact still sent chills down his spine. many say it granted the wearer power. Bane had told Samual after he had become his aid that the cross was a gift from Datro himself to signify his promotion to commander.

Datros army was charged with the same task as Datro himself. To maintain the balance of good and evil in this world. Bane originally enlisted in the army to give himself a sense purpose and found himself leading one of its companies within a few years’ time. His promotion was a reward for the struggle against the war mongering Bloblics. At least that’s how Bane looked at it.

Datros armies had set up camp on Slugglith Island just outside of the Amphibians home. The reports about the Amphibians genetically engineering creatures as weapons for their own selfish purposes were confirmed within the first few days of the conflict. Datros army was dispatched to deal with the situation. This war was not as straight forward as the battles against the Bloblics. Even though the Bloblic race, as proud as they were and as strong, never reduced them selves to the tactic these Amphibians were using. Amphibians were cunning little creatures themselves. They used guerrilla warfare to compensate for their lack of brute strength. And constantly implemented a hit and run offensive as opposed to the honorable face to face battle. After five months of the siege over their people Strife gave himself over to Bane and promised to sign their surrender if it would put a stop to the killing.

Bane stepped out of his tent and was meet by his honor guard as they proceeded through the camp. Approaching the table Bane could see the defiance in his enemy’s eyes. Bane stopped in front of the Amphibian leader and removed his helm. Placing it on the table as a sign of respect before beginning.
“Strife you and your people are accused of offsetting the balance with you genetic creations” Bane spoke “Your surrender and submission to this army will once again set the balance right.”
Strife maintained his defiant glare as he chose his words carefully.
“You really believe this army is maintaining the true balance of good and evil” countered Strife. “You are blind if you can’t see your own unbalance in this.”
Bane slammed his fist down on the table.
“Wrong.. I am commander Bane of the armies of Datro. We are charged to maintain the balance. Our strength and our power serves this purpose.”
Strife stood from his seat “The gift of power that hangs around your neck. A gift from Datro himself is proof enough to me of the imbalance” Strife continued. “You offset your own balance. That power will be your downfall” With this said Strife drew his sword and lunged for Bane. But before the weapon could make contact the cross around Banes neck launched out a pulse of energy knocking Strife to the ground. Strifes warriors moved to stand between them. Banes honor guard without hesitation countered this act of aggression. The amphibian warriors with no trees or plant life to shield themselves were cut down in a matter of minutes. The soldiers then turned their attention on Strife

“Enough” shouted Bane. “Leave him our task is finished here.”

Bane turned and began to walk back through his encampment.

The next morning Bane spent his time with his soldiers overseeing the final preparations for their return home only half paying attention to his surroundings. His thoughts wondering. “Are we doing the right thing Sam?”
The question caught his aid completely off guard. “Yes sir, our job is to maintain…….”
“I know Sam I know” Bane interrupted him “maintain the balance.” Bane asked the question again but this time to himself …. Are we?

“Message for you sir” the messenger was holding a letter outstretched to Bane.
“Thank you” replied bane as he retrieved the missive.

After looking over the letter Bane immediately turned to head to his tent. “Summon captain Tharjin and have him sent to me at once.”
Samual could see something was troubling the commander but he did not want to press the matter. Turning around he grabbed one of the soldiers and instructed him to locate Captain Tharjin and send him immediately.

As the captain entered the commanders tent Bane wasted no time with small talk and cut straight to the point.
“Captain I am leaving you in charge of the company while I am gone.” Bane began. “I should only be gone a few days, I have been summoned to an audience with our Lord Datro.”
“Yes sir. What are your orders?” asked Tharjin with a hint of surprise in his voice.
Bane could see he caught the young captain off guard but he knew the man could handle it.
“Finish packing up and head for home. I should meet up with you before you arrive.”
“Yes sir” Tharjin seemed a bit relived at the simple task.
Bane smiled to himself at the thought of Tharjins' reaction if he had asked him to march the army straight into the heart of the Bloblic Colonies. The thought quickly faded from his mind and was replaced with the contents of the letter he had received.

As Bane stepped into Datros chamber the cross around his neck began to glow as the artifact could sense its return to the power that had created it. Bane tucked the cross under his armor.
“You summoned me my lord” Bane called out as he took a knee.
The stale dry air in the chamber began to buffet Bane as the power and force of the his lords wings brought Datro to the ground in front of him. “Yes my loyal commander I have summoned you.” Bane looked up to see Datrus the man standing before him rather then the powerful creation of the Ainchants. “Stand commander” Datro commanded.
“You are a very capable leader but I do not think you have the stomach for what must be done.” Datro began. “I have placed my armies under the command of my daughter Djin. In your absence.” Shocked at this bane was trying to form a protest in his mind. Before he could say anything Datro continued.
“To maintain a true balance we must sometimes humble those who are pure. If we are always putting a stop to the evil acts the good and pure will out weigh the darkness. For the balance to be maintained we must place equal force on both sides.”
“Bane your success against the Bloblics and Amphibians was necessary. But it also placed that of your own human race out of balance” Datros gaze penetrated Banes mind as if it was seeking his retaliation. “My daughter Djin is leading the army to Trendor. She will deal with your Father herself. You have earned a leave of absence and some much needed rest. When they return you will have your command back.”
Datro turned from Bane. “You are dismissed Commander”

Chapter 4 – Mother and Son

As bane left his lords chamber he felt his feet dragging on the cold stone floor. Bane could not believe this was happening. The question he wanted so desperately to ask was running around in his mind ….Why must the good suffer? Lost in thought Bane continued down the corridor.

“My father has become blind to the truth.”
Bane surprised for a moment to hear this voice stopped. He surveyed the area to try and locate its source.
“He is drunk with power and only seeks the destruction of all that is good and all that is evil.”
Bane could feel his blood begin to boil as a woman stepped out from the shadows.
“You see in my fathers eyes the only true balance is non existence.” Bane recognized this voice. It was the same voice he had heard long ago whispering to him the night before he left home. The words that haunted him even until now….

I know who you really are.

“Life itself will continue to shift and Life will always seek out ways to surpass its boundaries” She continued. “Only through absolute destruction will balance be maintained”
The woman stopped in front of Bane. “This is my father’s interpretation of a true Balance. This is my father’s goal.”
Bane did not hear the woman’s explanation. Instead he was transfixed on the eve before his departure from home. Bane looked into the woman’s eyes, orbs of pure energy that seemed capable of burning a hole through his soul.
“Do you know who I am? Do you know ….who…. my mother is? Asked Bane
Djin began to smile “Yes Bane son of Darius. Yes I know who you really are”
Bane had never had a chance to meet Datros Daughter before. But her voice was unmistakable.
“You are Bane son of Darius …. and….. Bane son of Datrus. You my son are the real balance placed on this world. Just as others share in your inner struggle across the universe. Souls of light and of dark holding the balance within themselves on several worlds. You my son have royal blood from both sides” Djin stepped closer to Bane “You my son will set the balance right”
Bane could feel the blood fighting inside him as his mind struggled to comprehend this knowledge.
Djin began again. “I must stop my father’s obsession for power before he destroys all life on this world.”
Djin then reached out her hand and caressed Banes cheek. “I need you my son to help me”
Bane came to his senses and slapped his proclaimed mothers hand away. “He is sending you to attack Trendor” Bane spat. “Why should I trust you?”
“My father is sending me but the army will not set foot in Trendor I will promises you that” Djin smiled once again. “I need to lead the army there to keep my fathers attention focused so you my son can do what needs to be done.”
“And what do you plan to do …..Mother” Bane had decided to go along with this to uncover her intentions.
“Take this key down into the catacombs and find the mirrors of Kanasta. Their power is what grants my fathers freedom. The mirrors hold the gate way between his chambers and the world above”
Djin could see the doubt in her son’s eyes. “Once the power of Kanasta is cut off my father will be trapped within his own chambers, and his lust for power will be his own destruction.”
“And if you are wrong?”
“If I am wrong I shall release him and take full responsibility” Djins smile quickly faded “But if you fail I will have no choice and I will have to attack Trendor and complete my fathers will.”
Bane reached out his hand and took the key from his proclaimed mother “Then I have no choice”

Chapter 5 – Bane of Datro

Darius emerged from the entrance to the city standing on the opposite side of the bridge. “This must end here Demon-spawn; I have never loved you and never will… your heart is as black as your deeds.” Darius slid his sword from its scabbard. “I will fight you and destroy your insane campaign to rule.” At the last word from Darius, both Djin and the King ran at each other meeting in the center of the bridge like two knights jousting. Swords rang out in the early morning dawn as both locked in combat fought for what seemed to be hours. Neither letting up nor showing any sign of weakness.

Djin backed off slightly and Darius saw the slight mistake and took advantage of it. Bringing his sword and lunging at his enemy, Darius went for a lunge to the heart. Djin trying to parry knocked the charging blade just in time for Darius to miss her heart but pierced her right shoulder instead. The blade rendered her arm immobile and her sword fell to the cold stone at her feet. Raising his sword to Djins throat, Darius, poised to end her life, stood still. Both did not move. They stood there like statues neither moving a single muscle. Djins eyes were fixed on the victor; her anger was boiling in her gaze. Darius could see the flame searing in the dark depths of her pupils. She knew she had lost.

Djin began to laugh “Muhaaaa haaaaa haaaa” and she began to smile “you may have won this little fight my love but you will never be able to defeat me. Kill this body and I shall find another willing to be my host… Muhaaaaa haaaaaa haaaaa.” Darius stood there looking at Djin in her defiance. Then he noticed an inhuman gleam emanating from an onyx hung around her neck. Darius swiftly flicked his sword and cut an ornate necklace. As the necklace began to fall to the ground it exploded into a million bright shards of light quickly dissipating. Djin surprised at this action screamed out in defiance “Noooo… you can’t know about that, how … how can you... know…” Before Djin could finish crying out her entire body lit up like a sun bathed in pure light. As the light dissipated, her body was cold and lifeless on the stone bridge. With the destruction of the necklace the dark army of Datro was no longer under the control of Djin. The army faded away to nothing. Djin had been stopped. Darius knew he had won but he had the feeling Djin was not dead. As he turned to return to his city he heard a faint laugh on the cool morning breeze “muhaaaaa haaaaaa haaaa.”

Bane emerged in a dimly lit cavern under the catacombs. The Kanasta mirrors glow gave evidence of the power they held. Bane remembered stories he had over heard about these mirrors. Stories of others who had gazed into the mirrors and learned truth behind existence. Some had been shown their true nature and some had their darkest desires haunt them for the rest of their natural lives. Bane knew he must use his mother’s key to lock this power away. Perhaps it is best no one should ever use this power regardless of their intentions.

Djins voice played in Banes head “But if you fail I will have no choice and I will have to attack Trendor and complete my fathers will.” Bane reached into his pocket and drew forth the key Djin had given him. Reaching out to place the key in the mirror Bane hesitated for a moment. Only one moment is all it took as he saw a reflection of himself standing upon a battlefield. The ground around him was covered in the bodies of men, Amphibians, and Bloblics alike. The power and strength that surrounded his reflected image began to wash over Bane. The feeling of being drunk with pure power caused Bane to forget why he was there.

Is this my future… Is this my true path … or is this a possible reality depending on my decisions?

Bane stood there enthralled in the idea of having ultimate power at his disposal. Bane did not notice the war going on inside of him this time. His blood boiled as if the darkness struggled against the light. He was oblivious to reality. The power was real and the power would be his. Bane also noticed the image of himself had a bandage tied around his head covering his eyes. Was he to become blind? Would he never again see his home? The reflection shifted to Trendor as Banes thoughts turned to his father. Bane could see his Father standing on the bridge alone against the armies of Datro and his proclaimed mother leading it. She was keeping her promise. She did not send the armies into Trendor. Instead she fights my father alone.
Bane stood there watching as his father and mother drew their swords. Almost as two parents verbally spar only feet away oblivious to their own child watching in horror unable to do anything. The conflict raged inside bane just as the conflict between his parents raged in the noon day sun on the bridge to Trendor. Neither of them showing any weakness neither of them willing to back down and neither of them willing to admit their failure. As Bane continued to watch a feeling of helplessness continued to grow until he could stand it no longer. Falling to one knee Bane could feel a tear forming in his eye. He looked up at the mirror of Kanasta once again to see his father’s sword at his mother’s throat. Banes reaction was that of a child as he cried out in defiance to his parent’s actions.

Snapping back to reality Bane thrust the key into the mirror .. The power of the artifact surged from the mirror at the touch of the key lashing out with its energy sending a shock wave that would have killed a mortal man. Banes armor was incinerated but the cross hanging around his neck was glowing. Its power enveloped Bane acting against the energy released to destroy him. The cavern was thrust into total darkness.

The Kanasta mirrors will only show you truth…. Truth of all existence.

The power that washed over him as the knowledge of what the mirrors had shown him took hold.. His own death seemed the only payment to balance the knowledge he had gained. But this balance was cheated as Bane lost consciousness. The only light that remained in the cavern was that of the cross pulsing to the beat of Banes own heart.

The struggle within himself was over. His choice was made…..

Chapter 6 – The Price of Knowledge

“The gift of power that hangs around your neck. A gift from Datro himself is proof enough to me of the imbalance” Strife continued. “You offset your own balance. That power will be your downfall”

Bane sat with his drink nursing it as he reflected on the past. Bane knew Djin was his true mother and he would find a way to reach her some how. Rumors were running like wild fire about the events that transpired a little over a year ago. Some say Datro was punished by the Ainchants themselves for over stepping his bounds. Some say Djin was banished from the world by her father for her failure. And some new rumors of a man named Cane seeking to rule the world himself. Bane’s cross was lost in the catacombs when he was knocked unconscious but he did not miss it. The cross would only further serve to remind him of his failure. When Bane regained consciousness he never again would be the same. As he was nursed back to health he realized the image of himself in the mirror was already coming true. He was now blind and could not see the world around him but his eyes were now open to the world within. Perhaps the old frog was right. Perhaps I was unbalancing my self with the power of an artifact such as that. Bane reflected on his mothers words.

“You are the true balance placed upon this world. Just as others share in your inner struggle across the universe. Souls of light and of dark holding the balance within themselves on several worlds.”

From this bane realized he was not alone in his struggle and he knew he had brothers and sisters out there somewhere.
Bane smirked as he took another sip of his ale. “I know the truth” he said as he gazed into the fire. Although he could not see it he knew it was there he could feel its warmth on his face. “I now know the truth of it all”

“The balance will maintain itself”

Bane stood from his seat and walked out into the night.

I'm gonna start reading all that soon, but first I had to say this...

All u need to do is get Oprah to recommend this book, and the whole world will be playing Endless Ages

Wow... (I cant think of anything to say, I guess this is the best time to say: The best things are often things left unsaid!)

If you come up with any more chapters or expansions, I'd love to read them. Of course, we may have to dedicate a forum to you if things get any bigger!

well if things get any bigger it will most likely be a novel ..... I have 3 more stories planned tho that take place about the same time period this one did. as well as a story that will bring them all together that takes place after this ones end.

Shrug im having a lot of fun with this and will try my hand at a book ... but in the process ill drop chapters here on the forums. for feed back.

Who knows it may come together into a published work. Ill admit it may take some edditing due to the fact I was never very good at puncuation and spelling..(see what i mean) but I just have one of thoes minds that loves to explore the details.
