Summoning

A good idea here: summoning
You summon a familiar that would fight along side you. It would attack whatever you shoot. A good idea of this would be an add on to familiars, so it actually has more then 2 lvls...
Familiars
1. Flob
2. infant stount
3. vigon
4. guab fish
5. stount
6. Aqualaz
7. Amberlaz
8. soilaz
9. necrolaz
10. adult shockion
11. elite shockion
12. Jouster
13. Pidion
14. dark jouster
15. elder shockion
16. Grision
17. trisk
18. crid
These are just ideas, any suggestions?

Also, an add on to this. how to summon them would be you give a npc special ingrediants such as for a crid u give crid eyes. or flob u give flob shell. Just the common items u get from the monster to get a scroll that lasts forever, like klondon scrolls.
The monster would last until u unsummon it or die. The scrolls would be either non drop or droppable, you people debate it.

Almost like having a temporary pet of sorts ?? very good idea try to elaborate on it more as in the pros and cons of this concept.

There could be a type of gun where you can get say a lvl 1 gun of this type and be able to "capture" a flob by killing it.

I agree with Robo the Familiars skill does seem messed up right now.. Not having lvls to scrolls,insted we could just replace that skill and put Summoning instead... Each monster would have its special skill and to not lets scrolls go to waste you can have certain mobs give u rides... Like Klondon,Drakite,Skoid and Gope.
And have others like a flob do their own channel of damage... Like Pid can do Rune. each mobs can have their own channel of damage and u can rank the levels based on that.

Hmm, it seems overpowered after necrolaz. Having a gris, a dark jouster, or an elder shockion shoot along side you adding to your damage is a bit too much. How about, after necrolaz, make it
10. godion
11. dilirium
12. ashcerion
13. taldon
14. shockion
15. skion (larger ean)
16. slimdon
17. trisk
18. hidion

And keep in mind, the AI may shoot the ground rather than the target frequently, so some are melee and the last one is hidion. It flies and it shoots, so it's not just a trisk + more hp.
The summoned mob should despawn when you SS.
There should be a key to command it to attack a target. Point, press the key, the mob goes after it. Also helpful if you need to distract something...
Scrolls might need a 5 minute reuse limit, so you can't despawn and respawn a mob frequently when it dies.

Overall I'm liking this idea. It would be fun to train such a skill.

I like this, but the scroll should only be able to be active for a certain amount of time, maybe depending on ur level it makes it last longer. like at lvl 1 a flob would last for like 30 secs or so. But if ur level 8 and use it it would last for like 5 mins.

And more than just ONE thing, make it so u have to have like 50 flob shells to "imbue" into the scroll (amount depending on creature's strength). This can be added to magic as well, new spells could be made to boost ur familiar's power and such.

Maybe let your familiars get stronger after a certain level, like u can do something with a flob scroll and turn t into a Naton or Lidion scroll. Dunno just throwin out ideas.

Good idea, needs to be some checks though to keep it from being too powerful (imagine a PKer summoning something and BAM! you're dead and the PKer didn't have to move).

For targeting, to keep from making it take too long to give it a target while you're in combat, I'd say it should attack the summon of the person you attack first automatically (if there is one). If you want it to attack something else, have it change targets to the first thing you shoot 5 times, with options in a menu perhaps of how you want it to target (autotarget always - shoots summons first, then what you shoot at; manual target - shoots summon first, then whatever you hit 5 times in a row always changing; manual locked target - shoots summon first, then whatever you hit 5 times in a row and will stay on that target until dead). That way, assuming even newbs can get the summoning skill before PK lvl, there's a bit of a check in there forcing you to actually work instead of letting the pet work.

Also the AI will be fixed so they don't shoot at your feet I believe.

Make sure that the pet can teleport or goes faster than a normal pet, otherwise you will lose them.
Also, how about the pet can gain levels as well as you?

well how about a couple of tactic options?

Like ahhh how about you can tell your pet to stay and guard? So when houses are up you can leave behind something to defend it (like if its being used for a clan)?
What about scout an area out? like the player can summon/buy/whatever a critter and take control of it (like in quake wars with that drone (or was it that game? cant remember))?

Umm... how about letting a player upgrade the pet? It could be small things like putting a light on them to light up a dark room to big things like a cannon or AA gun (or it could be status changing gear).

How about your pet/summon can hold items for you? Like a sort of portable bank? (dont know how it'll work but throwin it out thar) How does the tactic of some pets being able to use items on their master sound? Like a first aid or ammo supply?
How about a "cover my target" tactic? people can send their pets to help other players out?

anyways if any tactics are to be put in with pets I think should have something a bit more than shot mob to attack and to switch target shoot other mob. But that could still work if the pets are decent or well done in their AI, stats, attacks, etc.
anyways good luck coming up with ideas!

Flob, inf stout, vigon, stout, necro would be cool, not too strong but still useful. The AI in the game is pretty bad right now though so they probably can't actually make this work currently.

Pets should do different things than hold items and attack. There should be an actual tactic and a point to it. For example of different types:
-Slows enemies
-Ridable/Mule (holds lots of items)
-Heal (heals you)
-Net (traps enemies for a short amount of time)
-Shooters (does ranged damage)
-Melee (Melee damage, most likely reserved for aerial pets)
-Status increaser (Does small amount of damage to enemies to, increases stats)
-Item user (Uses items for you automatically like peroxi's, ammo reloading, etc...)
-Magic (Heals, acid shot, etc...)
-Enhancer (Small-Medium sized creatures that claw to your back. Flaps wings to increase run speed, jump speed/height, and JP speed/height)
-Visual helpers (small creatures that help you out. Could be a constant flare-like creature that lights the way a certain distance ahead of you, clings to the target and lights up for easy tracking, or attaches to you or your gun and displays enemy information. Lore could be you have a high skill in summoning so you have a sort of telepathy or w/e.)
-Annoyer (Annoys enemies by trying to be distractful and going in enemies view, could have clone abilities to copy you and lure enemies away (low health though), could shoot something that distorts view like your drunk)

We should try to be creative here so it's not like "Yea, sounds good, but it just seems like a dumb idea with no point but to have a pet". Should have an actual USE in the game.

How bout just jouster at lvl 8 and pidion at lvl 12?Also the lvl 18 one should be a crid that does death damage or else it would be useless.Your ideas are good but you want pets to be small, skoids are tooo big. A good idea would be to have a way to set up ur pet such as: Attack on sight, defend you (attack whatever attacks you), and attack what you attack.
Peter, some of ur ideas would work but most wouldnt fit in with endless ages, such as annoyer, enhancer, item user, visual helper, i belive that summoning should just summon a pet to help you in battle by attacking, not all that other stuff. I think most of ur ideas are way too complicated, but ur concept has a point there.

also visorak, 30 secs for a lvl 1 is hard, i say it lasts a minute for every lvl u do. And also making a scroll would be like you say, but maybe less things. just 10 of each would work. also the scroll should last forever once u make it. Runescape has a similar concept (which is where i got the idea from) but it is alot crappier. You need stuff to make a pouch which lasts for only a few mins... then u have to recharge ur points at an obilisk = CRAP! If we do adopt this skill lets make it simple and fun.
Also your familiar should tele to u when u go far enough away and u can set a button to bring it to you.
Those are my ideas, i would like to hear from the rest of you and the devs.

Having familiar lvl with you wouldnt be good, having a lvl 18 flob would be a drag for enemys.

Depends on the creature dude. A lvl 18 player could get 50 flob shells in 2 mins, while a noob would get them after a long time. It would be worth the work though!

I feel we should focus less on assistance from ShapeShifting and of course the Summoning would fall into a similar catagory.

I have done 11, 12, and working on 13 armor since I came back. I have noticed that the only real good way to kill these quest spawns is an assist from a skill such as ShapeShifting and Piloting (Rune Poly). I would like to see the game how it was in Gold, you and your char, your skill, against the mob/spawns. ShapeShifting and Polys have pretty much eliminated the need for your race of choice, for your guns, for your armor.

Come to think of it I never really did much Shape Shifting in Gold, however I do remember it being possable to complete quests with out assistance from SS or Piloting. I recall only useing a DeathBot to hunt dung's.

Gold was a while ago so please correct me if I am wrong.

I guess PVP/PK is the only use left for WT/MC/Melee Weapons and your char.

Yea, I read about that too. Yes, I actually got bored enough to go on their site and see what they've updated. And as usual, it still seems like they're keeping the bulk of the game to members. And that made me even more bored. Go figure.
Here's an idea from a FPS game called Planetside. Planetside, a futuristic war game for those who don't know, has vehicles that have trunks to store stuff like weapons and ammo. Maybe we could have something similar, except maybe a vilidion (valdron-like mob on BM island near the elder shockion) with some sort of bags on the side like a mule. Or, as I've heard mentioned, additions to piloting. Someone mentioned APCs. The trunk would be a must with this. I was thinking maybe a vehicle that could float a few feet above the ground. A few passenger slots, and a trunk with, maybe, room for 20 items? Maybe the floating part is after Planetside, but it would fit in with hoverbikes and polycycles.

This would be interesting to see in EA. I don't think you could have full time items like SS orbs but have a consumable item that summons your pet for 30 minutes and destroys the item. Have some of the mobs do less damage and be able so you cannot shift while the pet is summoned. Also you would want it so the mobs can agro the monster if they do more damage than you because letting your pet attack and hiding wouldnt be cool. Have the pet revivable after like 5 minutes if the 30 minutes hasnt expired.

Hold it there Sumdude....let's not make vehicles a big part of the game. A. the world is too small and would make the feeling of immersion less than it is and B. Using vehicles to kill things isn't a part of the game.

Anywho, I still think there should be a point in using different summonings.
