Ingame Social Features : D
A few weeks ago, I discovered EA again, and I was elated. It seemed like it had been years since I had played in boomtown, and the last time I had checked on it I had found Phylon, an awkward reincarnation of the game I once played, and needless to say, I was disgusted. So you can Imagine my joy when I found the current EA, a version closer to my first love then any I had ever seen. The first thing I noticed when I started playing was the small player count, the next thing I noticed was the powerful sense of community that resided in every player. So It got me thinking, "Why aren't there any community based features?".
There already exists a clan system, but what about buddy lists, events, team based pvp? The latter two could immensely increase the sense of community, and newb appeal. Events that didn't favor the higher level players like so many generic events in other games do, and allowed new players to jump in and start making a difference; actually competing with the other , regardless of level. Or a tag system, where the tag could be essentially equipped or removed, and it would basically turn Clan based pvp on or off. Even deeper would be fixed factions with actual residence in the world. Imagine bases for three separate factions that could be raided and defended by members of the faction.
Some competition has never hurt anything, and I think that supporting EA's already thriving social atmosphere with some concrete, palpable features could be the twang that will make people remember its name, and maybe even remeber it the way I remeber boomtown...
One thing to be cautious of when installing this kind of feature is that it can easily ruin what is already there. So whatever approach whoever reads this decides to take should be a cautious one, but I figured if I could do anything to make EA better, including pitch my silly ideas to you guys, I would be a fool not to.
I miss boomtown T_T
