Exclamation Old World Revamp Poll!

I wanted to see what people would like to see or what people want done to the old world...

1) Redo the all of the old world bigger and newer... This means all new textures new objects new tree's everything.. Also possible to expand this and make the world even bigger.. Not to sure how bigger the client can support though..

2) Just redo old world textures and replace things over time like trees and such so its the same layout as the old EA..

3) Just leave it alone (old textures 100% no change)

I'm personally thinking 1 or 2.. I love the old world but be nice to see even a bigger old world... But I also like the design of the old world but want it updated old exploits fixed and textures and more..

What do you want to see?

Then definately #1. Revamp old world. I loved the ideas they had for the 2 seperate worlds. One lava and one Ice. Anyone still have those old sketchs?

that could be added worlds later on too some different harsh environments and such

My vote went for "Not Sure Really"

Here is what I want to do to the existing worlds, prior to open beta, if I have the time. What they choose to do or have done past that point is beyond me.

#1 Place the water shader in to accent the exisiting water. I am not replacing the exisitng water, but toning it down and adding in another water surface for the shader. With a little fine tuning, the result is breathtaking.
#2 Add in additional "DayStates" to provide changes in the lighting / fog and other environment setting over time.
#3 Adjust object distances. LOD, Popout, and fade ranges.
#4 Finish some additional level content.

Ive got to dissagree with Kane on one comment, love ya man. "Remember old stuff does not attract new players."
Most of the EA content, from Old to New, is expansive and endlessly fun to explore. Sure the graphics on a lot of them are dated, but at the same time they have a good cult feel.

I would never say take content out. Removing something takes out history and leaves you only the memories. Texture overhauls, sure, but be carefull since we artist like to get recourcefull and use a bits and pieces of textures for things they were not intended for. You may get some odd results in places you would never expect.

New content. Ever the better. Make it quality and make it fun. Function and layout should always trump trying to make it prety.

and I think making IIA a bit bigger may help out in the future if the game gets big, but personally I like the way IIA is.

Me personally Id like the main world(IIA) vamped up with teh following:

Re-textured
Water to look like water like phylon did
Realistic looking trees
Maybe vamp up the structures
Maybe vamp up the sky

Things Not To Do:
Do not destroy the main world, it is great. Expanding it is fine but replacing the entire main world should be a big no no.
Do not consider adding grass or debris(all it really does is drop fps incredibly)

i liked the old feel of EA, though I have never been one to play games just because they look good, cant stand games that go all graphics and then basic game play.

I like getting new texures for main world but like Rolled said debirs/grass would just lower fps.

I would love to see main world expanded on once the map has been re-textured. Also Fire Town should be re-textured and maybe go a little bit darker with the lighting, and fix the pool of whatever it was in the middle... since it is firetown it should be lava not water, atleast in my mind...not that it counts lol

well i went a little off topic but oh well.

Id luv to see zones like Firetown revamped, most the old zones are great just could use some touching up.

I love your sig to But I would have to go with I love the old layout and I don't want to see that change ever.. But I do think
Sky Box, Water, Land textures need to be changed for sure. The old Sky was painfully poor and I think most people remember looking up into that yellowy something Mind you back then it was high tech hehe. Also will see what its like but I think even just redoing some of the land texture even over time would be a nice change for people.. I think the old stuff was neat but even a higher definition.

BTW does the game engine have built in AA?

Oh god thats the worst thing about the old game was the yellow world I mean you could not even see it was like yikes it was like yikes internal error shutdown

You can actualy thank DJ for the Sig. These are some of his renderings of Air World, Alona Sibat, and a Blob bust shot. I just stitched them together.

As far as the sunset goes, I will see what I can do. I also like a lot of veriety in my sunrise and sunsets so you may not be 100% pleased with my results, but at least it will change and modulate through different colors over time. So if ya dont like it, wait a few min for it to change.

Too much good stuff in EA, why replace, just add more :-P Cheese

Thanks for the Response its always good to know theres someone out there who does not want to scrap what we got but wants to keep adding more That way we can always know where we can from thats why we wanted ea back no?

It's a nice sig one day and I mean not now but once things are settled down and it starts getting slow maybe there be a few renders out with transparency for us to work on our own sigs

That would be really cool to see! A big lava pool, that bubbled and made noise.

I agree totally with that last line you said. But you also have to take into consideration that the old IIA world was made for the old models, and with the 'booster' models (which is why I never liked them so much) they never fit in real well. But with those cool 'Mother Land' Screen shots that where posted they fit in great!

Not *****ing or complaining I promises =) Just curious and I hope Impacts curiosity doesn't get the Impact banned I am just curious to see if it will be done some time in the future, I understand totaly that what you guys are doing is a REALY REALY big project, and I hope nothing I have said in this post will come across as *****ing or complaining or anything offensive.

But will you guys be able to re-texture the old world?
