Spiritwind is gone - Fire
Well guys,
Sorry I havent been able 2 check into the forums lately, There has been a fire in the mountains about 3 miles from my house, and its pretty good size, some 5000-6000 acres, they wont give me an exact amount but its at least 6000 acres.
And since im in the volunteer fire department... you all know what that means.
I've been fighting fire for the last 2 days and just got done today - might get called again soon, plus thunderstorms = high fire chance, but i enjoy fighting fire so im happy XD - , 8 hours of sleep in about 72 hours dosent work well - not to mention that football practice started this morning, that was fun... - ^^.
The fire keeps growing and getting worst... If you want to keep track of the fire you can here - InciWeb: Ochoco WFU Wildland Fire Used for Re -
Note - Wrong details
The wrong details on the site is the location, its actaully directly behind mitchell in the same mountains it says its by in dayville.
The fire was reported on the radio frq of local dispatch and forestry as being 5000 acres the day before the site was updated and grew rapidly that day, way more than just 500 acres...
The temp wasnt a high of 88 degrees... but rather about 97-105 degrees F
There is currently 90 firefighters and 10 engines on it, and if you know about forest fires, 90 fighters in thick try timber with high Haines Index isnt even close to enough....
When i can I'll get you guys pictures of it, its pretty beautiful at night
---
The fire is currently threatening the town, its about 3 miles but could take a turn, i live 4 miles away and there are peices of burnt bark and crap all over our yard, none hot tho. So spot fires could create loooots of trouble

Thanks pal. So far everyone has remained safe. We got a good team on it, only problem is a fire just poped up today thats growing rapidly only 5 miles from their home... So i get a feeling the best crew on teh fire is going to be gone for a while.... If that is the case then another town will get called as mutual aid, but they arnt as experienced...
Any firefighters here?

lol they were dumpin like 300 feet from us. We almost got dumped on, they flew like RIGHT ON TOP of us. Not even kiddin, looked straight up and all i could see is the bottom of a big plane, we were in the zone not knowing when they were goign to drop when they did the dry drop - they do it the round before they do drop to make sure everything is still the same and safe and 2 give fighters a warning to grab ahold and take shelter incase the liquid dosent split but stays a blob.... We managed to get out before they droped tho =p. Lucky i was in the back of a vehicle when it happened.

also all navy personel are fire fighters, but the lucky ones get trained as fire jumpers

Well they ended up with 200 men on it around mid-day with about 20 rigs. They pulled the cats out this evening, theres a few other fires. I've heard two diffrent stories on the fire *didnt go on it todya, just stayed at the firehall a few hours on standby*... According to the news our town is in great danger and it is being determined whether or not there should be a evac sometime soon. ODF - whom i trust highly, they know how to get things done around here - says the fire is picking up again but some areas are dying down. They hope to have it out by the end of this week, their estimate on the size of the fire is 5k acres. Thunderbolts, a crew from johnday says the fire is same as out, there is nothing to worry about, that everything is clear. Sadly I dont believe that...
Official report on the size of the fire is 7k acres atm.
Crazy to think forestry was *Watching* this fire when it was only a small patch of trees going that a guy could easily put out with some hand tools and a few buckets of water...
Expect pictures sometime tomorrow =)
No affence solstice, but i dont much have a high opinion on forestry, even tho a good pal of mine works firefighting for them.
Dont like they're Let it burn opinion.... Its all about next years budget for them....

I went through Mitchell by car, last week I think. As I recall, there was a small forest fire nearby, which was taken care of by the time we passed through. Now what if the corn palace burned. "Oooooh pretty.... Wait, no more tourists like me will stop by lol..."
By the way, I'm a few days away from being home and getting back on EA. Hope that big fire gets put out soon!

Are you thinking of a diffrent mitchell? Never heard of a corn palace. Just a bear and the painted hills and an attraction in our town.
Update - We are still in standby, I'm trying to talk our fire chief into getting us back on the fire, if not for fighting it then training.

From what forestry says its about 45% contained.
The only way I will prob get called out now will be if it begins getting close to a structure or spots happen.

Good job Spirit, being a volunteer firefighter takes some guts !
I wouldn't have thought of you like that in game, haha !
I hope the fire didn't destroy too much stuff. Fires... are bad. And i can tell.
Good job again ;-D

Wowsers Spirit you take care of yourself. I think its mighty honorable of you to help protect your fellow humans. I'd send you some Duct Tape to cover it all up, but unfortunatley they havent invented fireproof Duct Tape.
Till then Godspeed and hope everything turn out ok.

Yea, it probably was a different Mitchell. All it was was a building decorated with artwork made of corn, and some grass. Just something to see on the way through (or not).
